Spider Veins
SPIDER VEINS treatment
SPIDER VEINS TREATMENT AVAILABLE AT VIP MEDISPA
Spider veins, also known as telangiectasias, are damaged and visible blood vessels that appear just beneath the surface of the skin. They often appear as thin, red, blue, or purple lines or clusters that resemble spider webs or tree branches. Spider veins can develop anywhere on the body, but they are commonly found on the legs and face.
Unlike varicose veins, which are larger and deeper veins that may bulge and cause discomfort, spider veins are smaller and closer to the skin’s surface. They are usually harmless and primarily a cosmetic concern. Spider veins may not cause any symptoms, but in some cases, individuals with spider veins in their legs may experience sensations like burning, cramping, itching, tiredness, or mild pain, particularly after standing for prolonged periods.
What causes Spider Veins?
Factors can contribute to the development of spider veins, including:
Hormonal Changes: Fluctuations in hormone levels, such as those that occur during pregnancy or menopause, can increase the risk of spider veins.
Genetics: A family history of spider veins or varicose veins can make an individual more susceptible to developing them.
Prolonged Standing or Sitting: People who spend long hours standing or sitting without much movement may be at a higher risk of developing spider veins.
Obesity: Excess body weight can place added pressure on leg veins, contributing to the development of spider veins.
Sun Exposure: Ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun can damage blood vessels, potentially leading to the development of spider veins, especially on the face.
Age: The natural aging process can weaken vein valves and reduce the strength of calf muscles that help pump blood upward, increasing the risk of spider veins.
Hormonal Factors: Hormonal birth control methods and hormone therapy for menopause can affect vein valves due to the influence of estrogen.
Injury or Trauma: Physical injury or trauma to the skin and blood vessels can contribute to the appearance of spider veins.
While spider veins are generally harmless and only require treatment for cosmetic reasons, they may sometimes be an early sign of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), a vein disease that can lead to complications. At VIP Medspa we can treat Spider Veins cosmetically using:
